I’ve never really grasped how people can make a civil rights/ libertarian argument against speed cameras, though I know there are loads of pressure groups doing just that in Britain (here’s one). I’d assumed it had nothing to do with cameras as such, but more to do with those arrogant berks who think they are such advanced drivers (‘it’s all about assessing the condition of the road’) they can somehow brake in contravention of the laws of physics when someone steps out into the road in front of them.
But this is a new one on me – ban those evil cameras monitoring whether you stop at a red light! How dare the Government pry on your private business – your life behind the wheel, no less – in this manner? Big in Chicagoland, apparently.
